“Yo
Nací de Mujer
(“I was Born of Woman”) by Clara Curteis (2019)

A mix of trova, classical music, hip-hop and reggae-flavoured social struggle, spiritual exploration, feminist thinking and anti-imperialist vision. Very lovely to listen to.

"Yo Nací de Mujer" is the first album by singer-songwriter Clara Curteis.
Clara was born in Scotland but has spent most of her adult life in Nicaragua. Trained in classical music since she was a child, she fell in love with the trova and the testimonial music of Latin America. During the last years she has also been passionate about the emerging trend of feminist hip hop. The music on this record reflects its broad influences combined with piano and powerful voice that serve as anchors to give life to an eclectic and idiosyncratic style.

Versus:  The Life and Films of Ken Loach
This is a funny, provocative and revealing account of the life and career of one of NSC’s favourite filmmakers, Ken Loach, as he turned eighty. The film looks back at over fifty years of filmmaking, encompassing classics such as Cathy Come Home, Kes, The Wind That Shakes the Barley and Ken's latest, I, Daniel Blake (2016).
I had forgotten until I saw this film that in the 1970s and 1980s Ken fell severely out of favour with the establishment and that he was an actor himself at one time. I thoroughly enjoyed this film with its interviews with script-writers, actors, friends and even Ken’s family.

Price includes post & packing.
