Nicaragua ranked 5th in the world in gender parity

For the past 14 years, the World Economic Forum has published the Global Gender Gap Report, measuring gender parity.

Their 2019 report benchmarks 153 countries on their progress towards gender parity in four main areas: economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival and political empowerment.

Nicaragua was ranked 5th in the world behind the Nordic countries, the same place as 2018.

In contrast the UK has slipped from 15th to 21st place and the US stands at 22nd.

The Report highlights achievements but also predicts that at present rate of progress it will take 99.5 years for women to be on an equal footing with men.

Nicaragua

New Zealand

Ireland

Spain

Rwanda

Germany
