Nicaraguan musicians Luis and Franklin will be performing in Oxford and Bristol

UK - Nicaragua solidarity remains very much alive and well 40 years on!

Pub quiz in London; performance of the Misa Campesina with Nicaraguan musicians in Oxford; celebration of 30 years of twinning between Leicester and Masaya; sponsored bike ride in Sheffield and football in Bristol; talk in Banger on ten years of Sandinista government; festival in mid Wales Wales featuring Nicaraguan music, politics, workshops, dance, poetry, theatre, inspiration! And NSC's 40th anniversary celebration on 29 September.

Wednesday 11 April 2018, LEICESTER. Marking over 30 years of friendship, solidarity and learning between Leicester and Masaya. 6- 8pm at the Chapel Café, Bishop Street Leicester, LE1 6AF. The event will include displays of archival material, presentations about our development projects and educational work and interviews with participants in Masaya and Leicester documenting the mutual benefits that the twinning has brought to both cities. We will also discuss the current challenges for international twinning links and global learning, the outcome of which will feed into a research brief we have been commissioned to undertake by Leicester City Council. http://leicestermasayalink.org.uk

Friday 20 April, LONDON. Pub Quiz to raise funds for pre-school in Managua. Entry costs £5 per person. Every penny goes to our school in Nicaragua to pay the wages of seven teachers. Thursday 26 April, BRISTOL, Nicaraguan Music Night. 6pm. Join us at the fantastic La RUCA cafe for an exciting evening of revolutionary folk songs and Nicaragua-themed entertainment!! Nicaraguan musicians Franklin Martínez & Luis Jarquín will be performing the famous Carlos Mejia Godoy songs from the Misa Campesina Nicaragüense (the Nicaraguan Peasants' Mass).

Food available from La Ruca's fantastic (and very reasonably priced) menu. Bring your own beer/ wine (but please make a donation for corkage!) Music from 7pm. £5 entry. Matthew Brown, Professor in Latin American History, University of Bristol, explores the historical circumstances that led to the rise of the 'people's game', 'the beautiful game'. From British 'informal' empire in in the nineteenth-century, to the rise of nationalism in the twentieth, the lecture explores what it means to play together, to dream together and to work together as a team.
