The 2008 London Marathon
: April
13th
Will you help our five courageous runners raise £5000 plus?
(just to pay for each place, for example, cost almost £300)
Im Juan Casasbuenas. My love for
jogging began around 14 years ago when I lived in Tunisia (and I
was 9!). Ever since I've had a love for running and the marathon
has always been a huge attraction for me. I'm from Bogota,
Colombia, which is 2600 metres 'closer to the stars', and they
say that Andean runners have excellent lung capacity. I hope
this is true of my lungs, and that my legs hold up for all 42
km!
David Harvey: Im a part time student of International
Disaster Engineering and Management and when the opportunity of
running the marathon came up I just couldn't resist the
challenge. Whilst i must confess my involvement with NSC started
as a way to get into festivals for free, the political aspect of
my course has highlighted just how much the capitalist world has
abused its power over countries like Nicaragua to their own
economic advantage without concern over the environmental or
human consequences (eg. Dole Foods for 'maliciously sterilising
banana workers'). That's why i support NSC as they stand up and
help protect Nicaraguans against injustices as well supporting
projects that have been inspired by the people thereby ensuring
that the projects will be sustainable as well as being good
value for money.
Stephen Campbell: I work for Computer Aid International
and am a member of the T & G. Having led a fairly
sedentary lifestyle for the best part of the last ten years I've
decided to go in the deep end and do a marathon. I ran a bit of
cross country in my youth and the memory of the pain is slowly
coming back to me as I take my first tentative steps on the road
back to full fitness. I first became aware of the NSC through
studying Central American history at university and it is
inspiring for me to raise money for an organisation that I know
does great work in a country that I care about.
Thom Wall: I've only been running for eight months and my
wife is officially a running-widow. A couple of half marathons
under my belt and I thought I'd go for the big one! I chose to
run for the NSC as I worked in El Salvador some years ago in a
similar capacity to the work that NSC carries out. I also spent
some time in Nicaragua and met some wonderful people. The
charity is much needed and I hope that in raising money for the
NSC I can contribute towards the valuable work that they carry
out.
Andrea Kempson: I am a music student and like to keep
active but have never attempted anything like this before. I
have been involved with NSC since summer 2006 when I volunteered
for events and last summer I ran the stall at Glastonbury. As
well at it being a great experience (and lots of fun) I got to
learn about the amazing work that NSC does and so when this
opportunity came up I couldn't turn it down. I can't wait for
the marathon as its something I've always wanted to do and I
couldn't think of a better cause to do it for.
Please encourage our runners by sponsoring them. Monies raised
will go towards NSCs campaign around education in Nicaragua
with 10% going to replant crops & rebuild houses and schools
after Hurricane Felix. THINK OF RUNNING 26 MILES YOURSELF AND
GIVE GENEROUSLY!
You can either make a donation on-line (see button below)
or complete the slip and send it with a cheque. Remember to
