The 2009 London Marathon
: April
26th
Will you help our five courageous runners raise £5000 plus?
(just to pay for each place, for example, cost almost £300)
Mark Mitchison: I am a physics student who has
recently quit smoking and decided to get my lungs in shape! I
learned about NSC through a friend who is involved in charitable
work relating to Central America. I believe passionately in
trade justice and free education globally, both of which are
taken for granted here in the UK! I hope that by running I can
help to provide these basic rights to the people of Nicaragua.
Chris Dunn: Im a 22 year old who
likes to keep fit, but running the marathon is easily the
biggest challenge Ive ever faced. Hopefully the purchase of my
first ever pair of proper running trainers, and some
(relatively) high altitude training on the seven hills of
Sheffield will pay off in London come the end of April! Im
pleased to be able to support the valuable work that the NSC
does, and hope people will give generously to such a worthy
cause.
Juan
Casabuenas.
Having run the
London Marathon last year (all 42km/26.2 miles of it) Ive
decided to go for it again. I hope to up my performance both in
fundraising and in my time! Last year I got 3hrs 20, Im aiming
to get it a lot closer to 3hrs this year (I dream of sub 3 hour
but that is just too optimistic). Although I did not experience
bloody nipples, serious chaffing, acute dehydration, etc. I was
in a lot of pain and could not get down the stairs the next day.
I have been warned already that I have to train better this year
and not to call in sick the next day). I expect this year to be
just as painful if not more
.
Pablo
Casasbuenas: I'm a 26-year
old Londoner who fell in love with the London Marathon last year
... but as I found out running a marathon is even harder than it
looks (I had to limp the second half because of injury). I'm
really looking forward to running again, and especially to
raising lots of money (it cannot be repeated too often: please
give generously!) for a great cause: addressing economic
disadvantage in Nicaragua. My target is to finish 100% healthy,
a 3:30 would be a bonus and beating my brother (also running for
NSC) a dream!
Tom Wilmot: I'm a Science teacher in
South London. I've done a couple of half marathons and after
each I have rejected outright the idea of running a full
marathon. Fortunately, since then I have blotted out the memory
of pain and exhaustion and managed to convince myself that I can
do the big one! The opportunity of doing it to help NSC is great
for me, especially as they do so much work in education. I
believe that universal access to primary education is one of
the most fundamental parts of sustainable development,
particularly where political and financial oppression stifles
social and economic justice.
Please encourage our runners by sponsoring them. Monies raised
will go towards NSCs campaign around education in Nicaragua
with 10% going to replant crops & rebuild houses and schools
after Hurricane Felix. THINK OF RUNNING 26 MILES YOURSELF AND
GIVE GENEROUSLY!
You can either make a donation on-line (see button below)
