Speakers:

Silvio Cerda, coffee network of
Latin American Fairtrade Producers Association
There are two kinds of fair
trade in Nicaragua. Thousands of small producers have benefited from
selling to Fairtrade markets in wealthy countries. Now, another form of
fair trade linked with food security is emerging through the
*Bolivarian Alternative for the Americas (ALBA), a regional
integration initiative. ALBA is supporting small farmers to produce
rice, beans, maize and meat for the local market, and to export meat,
beans and coffee to Venezuela based on guaranteed prices, advance
payments and a long term commitment.
