Here's a photo of our 2019 runners and you can get a flavour
of the 2016 London Marathon below that.
London Marathon April 24th 2016
This year we have four international runners and I’d like them to feel supported by NSC members. Will you help them raise £1500 each (and help NSC to pay for the places which cost £350 per person)? In the case of three of them they have also paid flights from Mexico! Thank you, Stella
RODRIGO CHAVÉZ: I’m Mexican and live in Toluca. I’m very grateful for the warm welcome I received when I was studying in Manchester, 15 years ago. Time has gone by, but the love I feel for the country remains the same. I started running in 2009 to improve my health and quickly fell in love with the sport. The London event will be my 5th marathon but I’ll be running for charity for the first time, helping NSC raise funds to send medical supplies to Nicaragua; I’m very excited about this. My training is going very well and I can't wait to participate in this magnificent event.
CHARLIE: I'm also Mexican but live in the States. From a young age in Latin America I’ve been passionate about meeting people and being active, be it through enjoyment of the outdoors or team sports. It comes as no surprise that I joined up for the London Marathon through NSC as a healthy challenge and to raise awareness and funds for a great cause. Join me in my race to help NSC and, if nearby, please cheer me on.
DAVID DELGADO: A few years ago, I fell in love with running. Now I am approaching a milestone: to run the London Marathon. It’s a dream come true. For the vast majority of us, access to health services and medical supplies is a given, but for people in Nicaragua such supplies are often unavailable. I am really excited about this !!! I will be running to make a difference for the first time in my running career. Last, but not least, it is great to know that by following my passion, I can help a country in the continent where I live.
FRANK HUDELMAIER: I’m Swiss but live not too far from Hampstead Heath. I’m enjoying runs in the hills, woods, and around the ponds. Thanks for giving me this opportunity; it’s good to understand that I am raising money for a very worthwhile cause, that of sending medical supplies to Nicaragua. I chose to run for NSC for this reason. I’m really looking forward to the day.
HOW THE FUNDS RAISED WILL BE SPENT
This year NSC is supporting an exciting link. The George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust and Unison West Midlands Region have resolved to send medical supplies to their Nicaraguan counterpart. As Nicaragua is the 2nd poorest country in Latin America & the Caribbean such supplies are often unavailable. Money raised from the marathon will go towards this appeal and our general work: sending delegations, bringing over Nicaraguan speakers, producing a magazine and supporting trade unions and co-operatives in Nicaragua.
THINK OF RUNNING 26 MILES YOURSELF AND GIVE GENEROUSLY!
You can do this in three ways:
* make a donation online (see button below)
* make a bank transfer bank transfer to NSC 60-83-01 50724556 Ref: Your name
* or print and complete the form here and post it with a cheque. Please remember to complete the Gift Aid section.
Bar Work at Festivals:
If you're over 18 and interested in doing voluntary bar work at festivals, read on. If selected, we get paid for your labour by the Workers’ Beer Company (WBC) and you get free entry to festivals such as Glastonbury. Sometimes transport is provided as well.
It's fun for you and a vital way of fundraising for us. Bar experience is not necessary but you must be reliable and committed to the event. It is better if you are known to NSC, for example as a member or supporter, to take part.
For details and application form contact us by email. Thanks.
